In just over a week, the best senior draft prospects in the country will gather in Mobile, Alabama to participate in the 2010 Under Armour Senior Bowl. The Senior Bowl is regarded as the official start to the draft season and representatives of all thirty-two NFL teams will be present to see the talent on display. While some NFL teams value the Senior Bowl more than others, it is no doubt that the majority of the players invited to this game will be putting on NFL uniforms a few months later.
This year’s Senior Bowl class might be the best in recent years, mostly due to the defensive line and pass rushers that will participate. Friday, January 15th was the final day for underclassmen to declare for the NFL Draft. Some thought that Washington QB Jake Locker would change his mind and decide to declare. Every year in January, draft season officially kicks off with the start of the college all-star games. The first of the two major all-star games is the East-West Shrine game. While the premier talent usually plays at the Under Armour Senior Bowl, the Shrine Game still has a lot to offer.
This season, there are a few notable players on the Shrine Game rosters that didn’t receive invitations to the Senior Bowl, which is leaving some scratching their heads. The most notable of these players is Ole Miss defensive end Greg Hardy. Coming into the season, Hardy was highly regarded as the top senior defensive end in the nation. Rolando McClain
ILB – Alabama Junior 6’3″ 245 lbs
Fresh off a BCS Championship, linebacker Rolando McClain announced today that he will pass up his senior season and enter the 2010 NFL Draft. McClain is considered to be the best inside linebacker prospect in the draft and should expect to hear his name called in the top 10-15 picks this season.
