Rookie Reviews: Week 7

Written by Will Spencer

The final scores are in the books and Draft Breakdown is here to update you on how some of the top rookies in the 2009 draft performed in week 7 of the NFL season. Michael Crabtree – WR – 49ers In his first career game, Crabtree actually made an impact for the 49ers. The 2nd WR taken in the 2009 draft ended the game with 5 catches for 56 yards in the loss to Houston. Part of the reason Crabtree held out was because he felt he was better than Darrius Heyward-Bey, who was drafted a few spots before him. Interestingly enough, Crabtree had more receptions in this game than Heyward-Bey has for the entire season (4). Patrick Chung – S – Patriots The former Oregon Duck continued his strong play this week in London vs. Tampa Bay. Chung recorded 4 tackles in the win, and also made his first Keep Reading…

Week 9 matchups to watch

Written by Will Spencer

#5 USC at #10 Oregon

Everyone knows who the stars are for the Trojans, but I’m more interested in seeing the battle of the Tight Ends.

For the Ducks, Ed Dickson (6’5″ 243lb Senior) has been having a solid season thus far. He’s pulled in 27 catches and 4 touchdowns for Oregon. Dickson had a huge game against Cal a few weeks back, racking up 3 touchdowns and 148 receiving yards. Dickson isn’t as big as you’d like, but he’s more of a receiving tight end, who also plays special teams. Word is, Dickson is ridiculously strong in the weight room, but doesn’t show it as a blocker on the field. Right now, Dickson is rated right around the other tight end that will be playing in this game.

Anthony McCoy (6’5″ 250lb Senior) has yet to break out this year as a receiver, Keep Reading…

Top QBs failing to impress

Written by Will Spencer

With only a few games left in the college football season, it’s time to start looking towards the NFL draft. Many were excited at the start of the season due to what could be an impressive and very large quarterback class. The senior class already had big names like Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow generating plenty of hype, but when you add underclassmen like Sam Bradford and Jevan Snead, draft analysts had plenty to watch for. As the season has progressed, the performance of the draft eligible quarterbacks has been underwhelming. In fact, the play of freshman and sophomore quarterbacks like USC’s Matt Barkley, Michigan’s Tate Forcier and Miami’s Jacory Harris have been more impressive to date. So what happened to the big name quarterbacks? The first logical place to look is with the defending National Champions, the Florida Gators. Quarterback Tim Tebow is a living legend for college football Keep Reading…
