With only a few games left in the college football season, it’s time to start looking towards the NFL draft. Many were excited at the start of the season due to what could be an impressive and very large quarterback class. The senior class already had big names like Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow generating plenty of hype, but when you add underclassmen like Sam Bradford and Jevan Snead, draft analysts had plenty to watch for. As the season has progressed, the performance of the draft eligible quarterbacks has been underwhelming. In fact, the play of freshman and sophomore quarterbacks like USC’s Matt Barkley, Michigan’s Tate Forcier and Miami’s Jacory Harris have been more impressive to date. The final scores are in the books and Draft Breakdown is here to update you on how some of the top rookies in the 2009 draft performed in week 6 of the NFL season. Brian Cushing – LB – Texans Cushing is quietly having a very strong rookie season for Houston. This week, the Texans matched up with a Bengals team that had been on a winning streak. Cushing sealed a Houston victory with an interception on the Bengals final drive in the 4th quarter, and added 9 tackles and 2 forced fumbles to his stat totals. Clay Matthews – OLB – Packers Another former Trojan defender, Matthews is starting to get comfortable in his role for the Packers. Everette Brown – DE – Panthers The former Florida State pass rusher reached a milestone this week against the Redskins. Brown recorded his first career sack this week and also added a forced fumble and 2 tackles in the win. Mike Wallace – WR – Steelers Wallace is starting to become a favorite target for Roethlisberger. Wallace scored again this week, ending the game with 2 catches for 52 yards and 1 touchdown, his first of the season. Hakeem Nicks – WR – Giants Nicks had another strong game this week and seems to be close to 100% after his injury. The final scores are in the books and Draft Breakdown is here to update you on how some of the top rookies in the 2009 draft performed in week 4 of the NFL season. Matthew Stafford – QB – Lions Stafford seems to get better each week. This week, he was able to play well against an aggressive Bears defense. Stafford finished the game going 24 of 36 for 296 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The QB suffered a knee injury towards the end of the game and is questionable for week 5. Johnny Knox – WR – Bears Once again, Knox is showing his talent. While he didn’t have a huge day as a wide receiver, he did return a kickoff 102 for a touchdown. The final scores are in the books and Draft Breakdown is here to update you on how some of the top rookies in the 2009 draft performed in week 3 of the NFL season. Matthew Stafford – QB – Lions The stats weren’t phenomenal, but Stafford helped the Lions get a much more important stat; a win. The Lions broke a 19 game losing streak at home vs. the Washington Redskins, and Stafford led the way. The former Georgia signal-caller finished the game 21 of 36 for 241 yards and a touchdown, and added 2 rushes for 23 yards in their first win of the season. Mark Sanchez – QB – Jets For the 3rd week in a row, Sanchez makes our list. While he had some struggles in this game (1 int and 2 fumbles), he maintained his cool.
