Bobby Rainey – Top Of The Hill

Written by Jimmy O'Brien
bobby_rainey

“How’s the air up there?” isn’t a question typically asked of a 5’ 7” college running back.  Then again, Bobby Rainey isn’t your typical 5’ 7” college running back.  And, if you check the NCAA record book, you’ll find that this Western Kentucky Hilltopper does in fact live in rarefied air.  As one of only a handful of rushers in FBS history with back to back 1500 yard seasons, Rainey was named both first team All Sun Belt Conference and two time offensive player of the year, while leading the Hilltoppers to a 7-1 conference record in 2011, only two years after WKU made the full-time move up to the FBS level.  As a self described  “blue collar guy, who loves to work hard,” Rainey emphasizes that he’s ready to do whatever NFL coaches ask of him.  At Western Kentucky, his coaches routinely asked him to, metaphorically, push a rock Keep Reading…

alfonzo-dennard

With less than a week to go before the beginning of the 2012 NFL Draft, it’s essential for players to be on their best behavior.

Unfortunately for Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, he was unaware of that little tidbit before Saturday, when he was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

The problems started for Dennard when he got caught up in a fight outside a bar near Lincoln, Nebraska, at around 2:15 a.m. After police arrived and attempted to break up the fight, Dennard allegedly pushed and punched one of the responding officers in the face.

According to police, it took four cops to subdue and take Dennard into custody.

Dennard, 22, is expected to stay in jail over the weekend until a judge can set his bail during a Monday hearing at Lancaster County Court.

Although Dennard hasn’t had many personal issues throughout his college career that have Keep Reading…

The Play the Draft® game (FRX-Football) is simple to play. (Don’t let the “stock market” lingo make you think the game is more difficult than it actually is.)

Your goal is to find “draft stocks” that you believe are undervalued

Add the most undervalued stocks to your team/fund, using the $12 million “rookie salary cap” with which all teams/funds begin play. Check your team/fund often, as stock prices are adjusted daily as NFL Draft analysts update their mock drafts based on new information. You can change the draft stocks in your team/fund at any time until 2 hours before the start of the NFL Draft at 7pm EST on April 26, 2012. Then, while watching the NFL Draft, see where the athletes in your team/fund are selected and compare your team/fund value to those of your friends.

Andrew Luck 2

“With the first pick in 2012 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select Andrew Luck, quarterback out of Stanford.”

According to ESPN, the Colts have informed the former Cardinal quarterback that they will use the first overall pick in the upcoming 2012 NFL Draft on him.

Since Luck announced his eligibility for the draft, he has unanimously been considered the No. 1 overall prospect available. Combining a staggering football IQ with tons of athleticism and a precision throwing arm, Luck has been seen as the greatest quarterback prospect to come out of the college ranks since Peyton Manning. Now, he’ll be taking Manning’s place as the Colts’ starter behind center.

Although it’s been expected for quite some time, the Colts have been unwilling to make their decision public up to this point as they continued to let the pre-draft process play out.

With Luck now a lock at No. Keep Reading…

‘One Week Away’ Mock Draft

Written by Will Spencer

We’re only a week away from the real deal, so time to get those last minute mock drafts in. While this isn’t the FINAL mock draft I (or any other DB staff writer) will be posting, it’s another conversation piece to discuss some alternate ideas for your favorite team’s selections.

1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck – QB – Stanford The Colts go with Luck to rebuild their franchise.

2. Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III – QB – Baylor No surprises here.

3. Minnesota Vikings: Matt Kalil – LT – Southern Cal The Vikings will do what they can to trade down, but Kalil is their guy.

4. Cleveland Browns: Trent Richardson – RB – Alabama Offensive weapons are badly needed and you have to be able to run the ball in the AFCN.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne – CB – LSU With so many questions surrounding Aquib Talib, Keep Reading…

Vontaze Burfict 3

Heading into his 2011 senior season, Arizona State linebacker Vontaze Burfict looked like a top-tier talent with the potential to be a Top 10 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

And then, NFL teams began to see the troubled tackler for what he really was: a disaster waiting to happen.

Questions already lingered after his time with the Sun Devils. Throughout his college career, he became known for being unable to control his temper. Time and time again, he failed to keep his cool in clutch situations and racked up inexcusable amounts of personal foul penalties. The man was a walking magnet for yellow flags.

At times, the ASU coaches were even forced to pull him from the lineup because he couldn’t control himself in do-or-die situations. In short, he was a liability.

Combining an immeasurable immaturity with a lack of discipline both on and off of the football field, Keep Reading…
