1. Kansas City Chiefs

Luke Joeckel – OT – Texas A&M

It’s a toss up whether or not KC will select Joeckel or Fisher here, so our predictions could be off to a great, or terrible start.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars

Eric Fisher – OT – Central Michigan

The Jags would love to trade out of this spot but if they’re forced to stay, why not get a top tier LT? Fisher would play RT for a year but with Eugene Monroe’s contract coming up next year, this isn’t drafting a RT…it’s drafting a top LT for 2014.

3. Oakland Raiders

Star Lotulelei – DT – Utah

A bit of a surprise here as most would assume Shariff Floyd would go first. However, Star has tremendous versatility along the line and we could easily see the Raiders falling in love. Certainly, Oakland is desperate to trade back and it probably wouldn’t take much to convince them.

4. Philadelphia Eagles

Dion Jordan – OLB/DE – Oregon

Switching to a 3-4 is no easy job and Jordan has a lot of upside as an edge rusher. Chip Kelly knows Jordan well and can help maximize his potential. Philly is another team that would really like to move back and in an ideal scenario, they could move around and get Geno Smith later in the first.

5. Detroit Lions

Ziggy Ansah – DE – BYU

Sure, the Lions could potentially take Lane Johnson here but they need to get better at rushing the passer. The Lions coached Ansah at the Senior Bowl, so they’re well aware of his potential. Ansah’s development will be assisted by having a strong pair of DTs beside him.

6. San Diego Chargers (from Cleveland)

Lane Johnson – OT – Oklahoma

In our first predicted trade, the Chargers move up and grab their left tackle. Cleveland is without a second round pick so being able to move back a few spots and pick that up would be huge. When the Lions pass on Johnson, the Chargers get on the phone with Cleveland because Arizona certainly wouldn’t pass.

7. Arizona Cardinals

Chance Warmack – OG – Alabama

After just missing out on a talented LT, the Cards adjust their focus towards the inside of the offensive line. They need to find a way to keep Carson Palmer upright if they want to be successful. Warmack would step in immediately and be effective.

8. Buffalo Bills

Tavon Austin – WR – West Virginia

Sure, this might be a bit of a surprise to some and while the Bills do like Ryan Nassib, we just don’t see them taking him at the 8th pick. If they can’t trade back, they may have to make a move up from the 2nd to get him. However, Austin is too talented of a play maker to pass up.

9. New York Jets

Jarvis Jones – OLB – Georgia

Another surprise to many, the Jets go with the productive Jones instead of Barkevious Mingo. There’s something about Jarvis Jones that looks like a Rex Ryan guy to us and wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen. Regardless, an effective pass rush is priority #1 for the Jets.

10. Tennessee Titans

Jonathan Cooper – OG – North Carolina

Adding an athletic, yet strong interior offensive lineman could go a long way in helping the Titans re-establish their run game.

11. Cleveland Browns (from San Diego)

Dee Milliner – CB – Alabama

The Browns end up having a best case scenario by trading back from 6 and still being able to pick up their guy. Milliner will match up perfectly opposite Joe Haden and the Browns secondary is instantly better.

12. Miami Dolphins

Tyler Eifert – TE – Notre Dame

The Dolphins will likely finish the trade for Brandon Albert so they decide to add another play maker for their young quarterback. Miami has added a lot of talent to their roster this offseason, so it’s sink or swim for Ryan Tannehill.

13. New York Jets

Geno Smith – QB – West Virginia

It’s no secret that the Jets are highly disappointed in Mark Sanchez and with two picks in the first round, the risk of taking a QB is a little lower. We wouldn’t be surprised if Geno is the pick here, but for another team. The Jets have several holes on their roster and if they can entice someone to trade up to this spot, they could wind up with even more solid draft picks.

14. Carolina Panthers

Shariff Floyd – DT – Florida

What a break for the Panthers! There’s been talk of Carolina looking to move up to grab Floyd and in our scenario, he drops right into their laps. A no-brainer pick that desperately needs help in the middle of their defensive line.

15. New Orleans Saints

Barkevious Mingo – OLB/DE – LSU

Well, the Saints certainly won’t complain about the Jets passing over Mingo. Switching to a 3-4 defense makes picking up an edge rusher imperative and Mingo can fill that role. Maybe Rob Ryan gets his brother Rex a nicer Christmas gift this year for passing over Mingo.

16. St. Louis Rams

Kenny Vaccaro – S – Texas

The Rams couldn’t be happier to select the top safety in the draft, filling one of the weakest spots of their roster.

17. Pittsburgh Steelers

Justin Hunter – WR – Tennessee

Pittsburgh decides to go with the more talented, but less consistent receiver from Tennessee. Losing Mike Wallace was going to be a blow to their offense, but Hunter will flourish with Big Ben throwing to him.

18. Dallas Cowboys

DJ Fluker – OT – Alabama

”But, the Cowboys don’t need a right tackle!?!” No, but they need interior offensive lineman and Fluker as a guard is a frightening thought. He certainly fits the mold of the large offensive linemen that Dallas loves and he would bring a nasty, aggressive style of the play to the middle of the Cowboys line.

19. New York Giants

Sheldon Richardson – DT – Missouri

Sure, the Giants need help at linebacker but that’s been a trend for several years in the draft. The G-Men value defensive linemen, possibly more than any other team in the league and they’d be happy to select Richardson at 19.

20. Chicago Bears

Alec Ogletree – LB – Georgia

Chicago needs help in their linebacker corps and Ogletree has all the talent in the world. Besides, the Bears seem to know how to work with LBs that are converted from Safety.

21. Cincinnati Bengals

Jonathan Cyprien – SS – Florida International

DC Mike Zimmer recently held a private workout with Cyprien and since Taylor Mays has been, well, a disappointment, they’ll get an upgrade at the strong safety spot.

22. St. Louis Rams

Cordarrelle Patterson – WR – Tennessee

The Rams would like to add an additional weapon for Sam Bradford and it’d be hard for them to pass on Patterson here.

23. Minnesota Vikings

Sylvester Williams – DT – North Carolina

Williams will instantly help the Vikings stop the run and has further room for development.

24. Indianapolis Colts

Xavier Rhodes – CB – Florida State

A tall, strong corner that can play press coverage fits in nicely in Chuck Pagano’s scheme.

25. Minnesota Vikings

Manti Te’o – ILB – Notre Dame

The Vikings have a glaring hole at MLB after Jasper Brinkley left, and Te’o can immediately play that role. Sure, he doesn’t have great timed speed but the kid is instinctive and a good, downhill thumper.

26. Green Bay Packers

Eddie Lacy – RB – Alabama

The streak of 1st round running backs is alive and well. The Packers haven’t been the same since their running game went downhill and adding Lacy will quickly alleviate that problem.

27. Houston Texans

DeAndre Hopkins – WR – Clemson

Andre Johnson has been begging for another WR and rightfully so. Hopkins is a tough, physical player that is more than willing to work the middle of the field.

28. Denver Broncos

Bjoern Werner – DE – Florida State

Denver needs to fill the hole left by losing Elvis Dumervil and Werner could fit in nicely here. He won’t have to be “the guy” with Von Miller there, so Werner can continue to develop, yet still be a nice addition to their pass rush.

29. New England Patriots

DJ Hayden – CB – Houston

There’s a good chance Hayden won’t last this long, so the Patriots would absolutely love this scenario. They’ve been thin at the CB position and some believe Hayden can be the best corner out of this entire draft.

30. Atlanta Falcons

Desmond Trufant – CB – Washington

After losing Dunta Robinson, there has been much speculation that Atlanta could even trade up in the draft to snag a corner or a pass rusher. Here, they’re happy to take Trufant at the bottom of the round instead.

31. San Francisco 49ers

Tank Carradine – DE – Florida State

The 49ers can go in a lot of directions here but their defense and the multitude of draft picks allow them to bet on upside here. If Carradine meets his potential, the combination of him and Aldon Smith would prove to be a lethal one.

32. Baltimore Ravens

Matt Elam – SS – Florida

Baltimore could potentially trade out of this spot but Elam is a player they’re bound to covet. His combination of size and speed, plus excellent tackling ability are exactly what the Ravens are looking for. Producing at a high level in the SEC doesn’t hurt, either.

FIRST ROUND

1. Kansas City Chiefs: OT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M

Haven’t changed this pick. All indications have been that this is their guy.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars: QB Geno Smith, West Virginia

Another pick that I don’t see myself changing as the draft approaches. New QB is the next logical step in the Jaguars rebuilding process.
3. Oakland Raiders: OLB Dion Jordan, Oregon

Last time, I went with Ziggy Ansah here. This time around, I chose Jordan. I know the Raiders signed a couple of free agent linebackers, but they are versatile, and so is Jordan. There’s a lot of options there.
4. Philadelphia Eagles: DT Star Lotulelei, Utah

Versatility seems to be the name of the game for the Eagles, and Star fits that mold better than Sharrif Floyd.
5. Detroit Lions: OT Eric Fisher, Central Michigan

One can easily make the chase that Fisher is superior to Joeckel. Maybe the Lions have more faith in Riley Reiff than I do, but I think Fisher’s the guy they want to bring in to protect Stafford’s blindside.
6. **San Diego Chargers (via CLE)**: OT Lane Johnson, Oklahoma

Many people think the Dolphins are going to move up here, but I could see the Chargers beating them to the punch. I think the Dolphins are likely more comfortable with Jon Martin at LT than the Chargers are with King Dunlap.
7. Arizona Cardinals: OLB Ezekiel Ansah, BYU

Too early for an offensive guard, and the top three OTs are off the board. So the Cardinals chose to add the explosive pass rusher instead.
8. Buffalo Bills: WR Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee

I think the Bills will explore trading down and selecting a QB. However, at 8, they are in a prime position to add a weapon. I considered Tavon Austin here, but there are only so many touches you can give to he and CJ Spiller in space, so I went with Cordarrelle instead.
9. New York Jets: LB Barkevious Mingo, LSU

The Jets desperately need a pass rusher, and Mingo fits the bill.
10. Tennessee Titans: CB Dee Milliner, Alabama

The Titans don’t have a lot of holes, but need a talent infusion. I think they’d be thrilled if Milliner made it to this point.
11. Cleveland Browns (via MIA): CB Xavier Rhdoes, FSU

I think the Browns would highly consider Eifert here, but instead, I think they’d ultimately chose to upgrade their CB corps.
12. Miami Dolphins: OT DJ Fluker, Alabama

The new rumor, and I can believe it. The Miami Dolphins are apparently high on Jon Martin for some reason, and if they truly do like him at LT, then adding a likely upper echelon RT makes a ton of sense.
13. **New York Jets (via TB)**: WR Tavon Austin, West Virginia

I’m saying the Revis deal goes down. Having already added a pass rusher, the Jets decide to add an explosive element to an offense that is severely lacking one.
14. Carolina Panthers: DT Sharrif Floyd, Florida

This might be the fastest run to the podium ever. Most people think Floyd is a top talent, and the DT position is in desperate need of attention for the Panthers.
15. New Orleans Saints: OLB Jarvis Jones, Georgia

A highly productive pass rusher who makes a good deal of sense for a team converting to the 34.
16. St. Louis Rams: S Kenny Vacarro, Texas

S is definitely a position the Rams need to address, and with the combination of Austin being off the board, and the fear of Vacarro being snagged by Dallas, I think it’s very likely he goes here.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers: OLB Cornelius Carradine, FSU

The Steelers add a big, physical pass rusher to step into the spot James Harrison’s release left open.

18. Dallas Cowboys: OG Jonathan Cooper, North Carolina

Whether or not the Cowboys add a free agent right tackle or not, they still need interior help, and Cooper fits the bill.
19. New York Giants: LB Alec Ogletree, Georgia

Ogletree adds an influx of speed and explosiveness to the Giants linebacking corps. He’s not completely there yet, but his ridiculous stop-start ability and speed will help deal with the rest of the NFC East.
20. Chicago Bears: LB Arthur Brown, Kansas State

The Bears experienced some turnover (Urlacher, Roach) at their linebacker position, and despite a few small signings, it’s tough to pass up Brown at this point.
21. Cincinnati Bengals: OT Menelik Watson, FSU

It’s starting to look more and more like Andre Smith won’t be back. There have been numerous rumors about Watson not getting out of the first round, and this seems like a logical landing spot.
22. St. Louis Rams (from Washington Redskins): OG Chance Warmack, Alabama

Fisher stills love to ground and pound the football, and for that reason, he will be absolutely thrilled to see Warmack on the board at this point in the draft. Could potentially rival the Panthers for fastest run to the podium.
23. Minnesota Vikings: LB Manti Te’o, Notre Dame

Vikings fans may not like it, but it’s not like I’m the first one suggesting this. When every talking head is saying Te’o doesn’t get out of the first, I have to believe them. The film says otherwise, but sometimes it’s not always about the film.
24. **Buffalo Bills (via IND)**: QB Ryan Nassib, Syracuse

I think Doug Marrone wants to bring his old QB from ‘Cuse with him to Buffalo. He already added a weapon in Patterson, but now trades up in front of the Vikings to make sure he can secure Nassib.
25. Minnesota Vikings (from Seattle Seahawks): QB EJ Manuel, FSU

Don’t think we’ll see just 2 first round QBs. While none of the teams picking immediately behind the Vikings are a threat to snag Manuel, the Eagles certainly are, so the Vikings decide to grab some insurance in case Ponder doesn’t show improvement.
26. **Philadelphia Eagles (via GB)**: CB Desmond Trufant, Washington

I personally don’t grade Trufant this highly, but it seems as if many others do. Based on current projections, this might actually be a little bit of a slide for Trufant. With teams like New England and Atlanta looming, and GB likely a willing trading partner, this is a good place to make a move for Trufant.
27. **Detroit Lions (via HOU)**: DE Bjoern Werner, FSU

I think Detroit would absolutely pounce on the chance to move up for Werner at this point in the draft. OT and DE are their biggest needs, and earlier I had them add arguably the top OT in this class (Eric Fisher) at #5. Now here at 27, with the trade up, they are able to get someone who was frequently mocked to them at #5 pre combine.
28. Denver Broncos: DT Sheldon Richardson, Missouri

The Broncos signed Terrance Knighton, and resigned Kevin Vickerson, but someone of Richardson’s talent, this late, is just too much to pass up, even with Cyprien on the board.
29. New England Patriots: WR DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson

It is no secret the Patriots are looking to add a weapon at WR. While I don’t believe Hopkins is a first round caliber WR, most seem to think he is.
30. Atlanta Falcons: CB Jamar Taylor, Boise State

After releasing Dunta Robinson, the Falcons opened up a massive hole at their #2 CB slot. While Dimitroff usually stays away from character concern guys, Jamar Taylor was only suspended for one game as a Sophomore. Considering the amount of pre-draft time the Falcons have spent with Taylor, it’s hard for me to believe it’s a major concern.
31. San Francisco 49ers: S Jonathan Cyprien, FIU

If he makes it here, the 49ers will be ecstatic. Cyprien represents a perfect replacement for Dashon Goldson.
32. Baltimore Ravens: LB Kevin Minter, LSU

Minter is a pick that makes too much sense at this point. Minter may never be an All-Pro, but he’ll be a nice piece in the middle of the new look Baltimore defense.

SECOND ROUND

33. Jacksonville Jaguars: LB Sio Moore, UConn
34. San Francisco 49ers (from Kansas City Chiefs): TE Tyler Eifert, Notre Dame
35. **Green Bay (via PHI)**: DL Sylvester Williams, North Carolina
36. **Houston Texans (via DET)**: WR Markus Wheaton, Oregon State
37. Cincinnati Bengals (from Oakland Raiders): S Eric Reid, LSU
38. Arizona Cardinals: OL Dallas Thomas, Tennessee
39. New York Jets: RB Eddie Lacy, Alabama
40. Tennessee Titans: OG Larry Warford, Kentucky
41. **Indianapolis Colts (via BUF)**: WR Keenan Allen, Cal
42. Miami Dolphins: TE Zach Ertz, Stanford
43. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: QB Matt Barkley, USC
44. Carolina Panthers: WR Justin Hunter, Tennessee
45. **Cleveland Browns (via SD)**: OG Kyle Long, Oregon
46. St. Louis Rams: WR Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech
47. Dallas Cowboys: S Matt Elam, Florida
48. Pittsburgh Steelers: DL Jesse Williams, Alabama
49. New York Giants: DE Alex Okafor, Texas
50. Chicago Bears: WR Robert Woods, USC
51. Washington Redskins: CB Jordan Poyer, Oregon State
52. Minnesota Vikings: CB Johnthan Banks, Mississippi State
53. Cincinnati Bengals: RB Giovanni Bernard, North Carolina
54. Miami Dolphins (from Indianapolis Colts): CB Darius Slay, Mississippi State
55. Green Bay Packers: S DJ Swearinger, South Carolina
56. Seattle Seahawks: OT Reid Fragel, Ohio State
57. Houston Texans: OT Terron Armstead, Arkansas Pine-Bluff
58. Denver Broncos: RB Lev’eon Bell, Michigan State
59. New England Patriots: DE Margus Hunt, SMU
60. Atlanta Falcons: DL Datone Jones, UCLA
61. San Francisco 49ers: OLB Damontre Moore,
62. Baltimore Ravens: S Shamarko Thomas, Syracuse

FIRST ROUND

1. Kansas City Chiefs: OT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M

When adding up all the moves that have been made by the Chiefs this offseason, you have to figure the pick will be used for the guy they’ve been linked to all along.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars: QB Geno Smith, West Virginia

New ownership, new management, new coach. New QB? I think so. Especially with GM David Caldwell coming from an organization (Falcons) that decided to pair a defensive minded head coach with a quarterback that everyone wasn’t sold on as a top pick.
3. Oakland Raiders: DE Ezekiel Ansah, BYU

A bit off the grid with this one. I don’t see the Floyd pick that everyone else does. With the lack of overall talent on the team, signings of DTs Pat Sims and Vance Walker, and the option to move Lamarr Houston inside, I just can’t see another DT being selected. Milliner is an option, but I say they opt for the pass rusher.
4. Philadelphia Eagles: DT Sharrif Floyd, Florida

The Philly kid fits in perfectly to Billy Davis’ new 4-3 Under defense. They lack depth along the line, and need someone to fill the 3 technique spot. Sharrif will likely be seen to fit that role better than Star.
5. Detroit Lions: OT Eric Fisher, Central Michigan

After Jeff Backus retired (and Gosder Cherilus signed with Indy), it has become hard for me to not think OT here. While DE is a need and an option, I think they’ll choose to protect Stafford’s blindside, and not force Riley Reiff into the LT spot.
6. Cleveland Browns: CB Dee Milliner, Alabama

The Browns would love to trade down here, having addressed many other needs already. However, if they stand pat, I think they’d add Milliner to pair with Joe Haden.
7. Arizona Cardinals: OLB Dion Jordan, Oregon

Lane Johnson seems to be the popular selection at this spot, but I think that the Cardinals would instead opt for the dynamic linebacker. Bobbie Massie improved mightily as the season went on, and you can do worse than a Massie-Levi Brown combo in my mind. I think Warmack is actually more likely than Johnson, but the positional value of a guard here makes Jordan’s ability too much to pass up.
8. Buffalo Bills: QB Ryan Nassib, Syracuse

You didn’t think only 1 QB was going to go in the first round, did you? While I don’t think he’s nearly this good, we’re talking about a QB hungry team, who just so happened to hire Nassib’s college coach. The dots are there, so I’m going to connect them.
9. New York Jets: OLB Barkevious Mingo, LSU

The Jets desperately need to create pressure outside of Rex Ryan’s blitz packages, and Mingo can provide that. He can be everything Rex thought he was going to make out of Aaron Maybin.
10. Tennessee Titans: WR Tavon Austin, West Virginia

The Titans are a weird team. They aren’t particularly talented, but they also don’t have many glaring needs. After the departure of TE Jared Cook, I think Tennessee replaces him (Cook played almost exclusively out of the slot) with Austin as their “space” guy. This allows Wright to play outside, and reduces the dependence on Kenny Britt.
11. San Diego Chargers: OT Lane Johnson, Oklahoma

The Chargers absolutely need to do something to protect Rivers, and this is a perfect fit. Lane’s a bit rough around the edges, but has the highest ceiling of any offensive tackle in this class.
12. Miami Dolphins: CB Desmond Trufant, Washington

I’m not nearly as high on Trufant as most, but the NFL seems to love him, and his bloodlines. Trufant does have experience in both man and zone coverage, which makes him a better fit than Xavier Rhodes here.
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: DT Star Lotulelei, Utah

In my mind, Tampa will likely be targeting Rhodes or Trufant at this spot heading into the draft. However, when someone with the talent of Lotulelei falls, you simply cannot pass him up. He’ll readily replace Roy Miller as the anchor of a defense, while adding more playmaking ability.
14. Carolina Panthers: DT Sheldon Richardson, Missouri

WR is an option here, but I think the Panthers finally address the massive need they have at defensive tackle. Richardson will provide an inside presence to balance their tremendous DE duo of Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy.
15. New Orleans Saints: DB Xavier Rhodes, FSU

I know that they have Greer, Robinson, and a newly signed Keenan Lewis, but this is a good position to be deep at. Rhodes fits what Ryan wants out of his corner (long and press), but also gives the Saints the added option of playing him at safety.
16. St. Louis Rams: OG Chance Warmack, Alabama

Fisher loves to pound the rock. I can’t think of anyone who will assist with that more than Warmack, and this pick also has the benefit of keeping QB Sam Bradford upright. Tough to think of many better fits than this one.
17. Pittsburgh Steelers: WR Cordarrelle Patterson, Tennessee

With Mike Wallace departed for Miami, and the uncertainty beyond this season with Emmanuel Sanders, the Steelers add another explosive WR here. Patterson’s game still needs time, but he can contribute right away on those quick screens OC Todd Haley is so fond of.
18. Dallas Cowboys: S Kenny Vaccaro, Texas

Dallas would be elated if Vaccarro was still around here. Safety has been a need for years, and Vaccaro also brings a “home-town” presence that will be easy for Jerry Jones to sell to Cowboy fans.
19. New York Giants: DE Cornelius Carradine, FSU

Osi Umenyiora is gone, and Justin Tuck isn’t the player he once was. In typical Jerry Reese fashion, he pounces on the best player available with Carradine. It’s unknown how much Carradine will be able to contribute early on coming off an ACL tear, but his overall skillset should make him a Pro Bowl defensive end in the future.
20. Chicago Bears: OG/C Jonathan Cooper, North Carolina

After addressing some of their offensive tackle needs with the signing of free agent LT Jermon Bushrod, the Bears turn to the interior offensive line and select the North Carolina prospect capable of playing center or guard for the Bears.
21. Cincinnati Bengals: LB Alec Ogletree, Georgia

While his issues with gap discipline will give DC Mike Zimmer fits, his talent is undeniable. Zimmer should also be able to help Ogletree improve on his biggest flaw (his hand usage), while Ogletree can still contribute immediately by adding speed and playmaking ability to the Bengals linebacker corps.
22. St. Louis Rams (from Washington Redskins): S Jonathan Cyprien, FIU

With Vaccarro off the board, the Rams select the guy that most people have as their second ranked safety. After his stock blew up after the Senior Bowl, Cyprien appears like a lock for the first round, and fills a need for the Rams.
23. Minnesota Vikings: WR DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson

This is a pick that I’ve had pegged for a while. The Percy Harvin trade and the Greg Jennings signing haven’t changed a thing for me, as I still think the Vikings will look to add this tremendously refined WR.
24. Indianapolis Colts: OLB Jarvis Jones, Georgia

Most people pegged the Colts to snag either Cliff Avril or Paul Kruger in free agency to fill their pass rushing need. They signed neither, and instead signed Erik Walden and Lawrence Sidbury. I can’t say I’m convinced they’re done adding pass rushers after those signings.
25. Minnesota Vikings (from Seattle Seahawks): LB Arthur Brown, Kansas State

I could also see the Vikings adding a defensive back after the Hopkins pick, but I think Brown is by far the best overall player remaining at this point in the draft, who also happens to fill a need for the Vikings.
26. Green Bay Packers: OLB Bjoern Werner, FSU

Earlier on in the process, Werner was mocked as high as #2 overall, but his stock has settled after a somewhat disappointing combine performance. While his pad level issues don’t make him an ideal 43 DE to 34 OLB convert, I think he’ll transition more than adequately.
27. Houston Texans: WR Markus Wheaton, Oregon State

I think it’s pretty obvious what the Texans are looking for. They want a WR who can absolutely blow the lid off defenses, and Wheaton is that type of wide receiver.
28. Denver Broncos: S Matt Elam, Florida

The Broncos desperately need some help at the safety position, and Vaccaro and Cyprien are already off the board. While Elam is not without flaws, he’s still one of my favorite prospects in this year’s draft, and he should be able to contribute big plays immediately.
29. New England Patriots: WR Justin Hunter, Tennessee

The lateral move of signing Danny Amendola, and the addition of Donald Jones doesn’t deter me from thinking the Patriots are done with trying to upgrade this position. I’d suggest looking at the rumors of them considering signing RFA Emmanuel Sanders and Greg Jennings. While Hunter disappointed in his Junior season, he’s an explosive receiver who does a lot of things very well. I think most of his issues this year had to more with letting his knee injury get to his head, as opposed to any lack of skill.
30. Atlanta Falcons: CB Jamar Taylor, Boise State

While at the time of writing this, DE Osi Umenyiora still hasn’t signed with the Falcons, it seems to be a forgone conclusion at this point. The Falcons still might consider drafting Eifert to replace Tony Gonzalez next year at this spot, it looks like they are built to win immediately. To accomplish that, the Falcons chose to upgrade on their number two cornerback spot.
31. San Francisco 49ers: TE Tyler Eifert, Notre Dame

San Francisco is in a fortunate position where they don’t have too many needs to address. Although they have Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker recently left town, and Eifert can fill his void on 2 TE sets. While Eifert isn’t the same caliber of blocker Walker is, he has shown himself more than willing, and sometimes even more than capable of performing. At the very least, he is an intriguing option to flex out wide and make plays in the redzone, ala Randy Moss last year.
32. Baltimore Ravens: LB Kevin Minter, LSU

While I don’t think that Kevin Minter will ever be a star, he’s a ferocious tackler who will help fill the void left by the depature of both Ray Lewis and Dannell Ellerbee. I would also consider a safety and option here, but I’m not sure if the Ravens would pull the trigger on a safety here with Vaccaro, Cyprien, and Elam all off the board. WR is also an intriguing option after the trade of WR Anquan Boldin to the 49ers.

SECOND ROUND

33. Jacksonville Jaguars: CB Jonathan Banks, Mississippi State
34. San Francisco 49ers (from Kansas City Chiefs): DT Jesse Williams, Alabama
35. Philadelphia Eagles: OT Terron Armstead, Arkansas Pine-Bluff
36. Detroit Lions: DE Alex Okafor, Texas
37. Cincinnati Bengals (from Oakland Raiders): S Eric Reid, LSU
38. Arizona Cardinals: QB Tyler Wilson, Arkansas
39. New York Jets: RB Eddie Lacy, Alabama
40. Tennessee Titans: QB Matt Barkley, USC
41. Buffalo Bills: WR Keenan Allen, California
42. Miami Dolphins: OT Menelik Watson, FSU
43. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: TE Zach Ertz, Stanford
44. Carolina Panthers: WR Stedman Bailey, West Virginia
45. San Diego Chargers: OLB Damontre Moore, Texas A&M
46. St. Louis Rams: WR Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech
47. Dallas Cowboys: OL DJ Fluker, Alabama
48. Pittsburgh Steelers: DT Jonathan Hankins, Ohio State
49. New York Giants: CB Blidi-Wreh Wilson, UConn
50. Chicago Bears: LB Khaseem Greene, Rutgers
51. Washington Redskins: CB Jordan Poyer, Oregon State
52. Minnesota Vikings: QB EJ Manuel, FSU
53. Cincinnati Bengals: RB Giovanni Bernard, North Carolina
54. Miami Dolphins (from Indianapolis Colts): DE Datone Jones, UCLA
55. Green Bay Packers: DT Kawaan Short, Purdue
56. Seattle Seahawks: DT Sylvester Williams, North Carolina
57. Houston Texans: OL Kyle Long, Oregon
58. Denver Broncos: LB Manti Te’o, Notre Dame
59. New England Patriots: DE Margus Hunt, SMU
60. Atlanta Falcons: LB Sio Moore, UConn
61. San Francisco 49ers: CB Darius Slay, Mississippi State
62. Baltimore Ravens: S DJ Swearinger, South Carolina

THIRD ROUND

63. Kansas City Chiefs: WR Robert Woods, USC
64. Jacksonville Jaguars: OT Reid Fragel, Ohio State
65. Detroit Lions: OLB Kiko Alonso, Oregon
66. Oakland Raiders: CB Will Davis, Utah State
67. Philadelphia Eagles: QB Matt Scott, Arizona
68. Cleveland Browns: QB Mike Glennon, North Carolina State
69. Arizona Cardinals: OG Larry Warford, Kentucky
70. Tennessee Titans: DE Cornelius Washington, Georgia
71. Buffalo Bills: OG Dallas Thomas, Tennessee
72. New York Jets: S David Amerson, North Carolina State
73. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: QB Tyler Bray, Tennessee
74. San Francisco 49ers (from Carolina Panthers): OLB Jamie Collins, Southern Miss
75. New Orleans Saints: S TJ McDonald, USC
76. San Diego Chargers: WR Aaron Dobson, Marshall
77. Miami Dolphins: CB Logan Ryan, Rutgers
78. St. Louis Rams: LB Gerald Hodges, Penn State
79. Pittsburgh Steelers: OLB Corey Lemonier, Auburn
80. Dallas Cowboys: S Phillip Thomas, Fresno State
81. New York Giants: TE Travis Kelce, Cincinatti
82. Miami Dolphins (from Chicago Bears): TE Vance McDonald, Rice
83. Minnesota Vikings: CB Leon McFadden, San Diego State
84. Cincinnati Bengals: C Travis Frederick, Wisconsin
85. Washington Redskins: S JJ Wilcox, Georgia Southern
86. Indianapolis Colts: DE Joe Kruger, Utah
87. Seattle Seahawks: TE Gavin Escobar, San Diego State
88. Green Bay Packers: RB Jonathan Franklin, UCLA
89. Houston Texans: TE Jordan Reed, Florida
90. Denver Broncos: DT Bennie Logan, LSU
91. New England Patriots: DT Jonathan Jenkins, Georgia
92. Atlanta Falcons: TE Dion Sims, Michigan State
93. San Francisco 49ers: RB Christine Michael, Texas A&M
94. Baltimore Ravens: WR Da’Rick Rogers, Tennessee Tech
95. Houston Texans (compensatory selection): QB Zac Dysert, Miami (OH)
96. Kansas City Chiefs (compensatory selection): LB AJ Klein, Iowa State
97. Tennessee Titans (compensatory selection): CB DJ Hayden, Houston

With Philadelphia-born Shariff Floyd atop the draft board, and both the Eagles and Andy Reid picking in the top four, the 2013 draft will have a distinct Philly flavor right from the outset. And, like a South Philly steak lathered with cheese and onions, this draft is loaded with juice in the middle, with the first round peppered with solid talent, though the top ten features few sexy, cant’ miss quarterback or running back prospects. In fact, you won’t find any first round RBs, and only one QB, along with no Tavon Austin, Jarvis Jones, Manti Te’o, Alec Ogletree, or Desmond Trufant. But, you will find meaty prospects like Jamar Taylor, Larry Warford, Travis Kelce, and Da’Rick Rogers. Like the waters down the Jersey shore, this draft runs deep, with more than a few surprises up top, if you just know where to look.

1.Kansas City - Shariff Floyd (DT) Florida: With Alex Smith in place at QB, the Chiefs target the trenches in round #1. In fourteen seasons in Philadelphia, Andy Reid drafted a whopping seven defensive linemen with first round picks, including Fletcher Cox just last year. Over the same span, the Eagles drafted just one offensive tackle before round #4, Winston Justice, in 2006. Reid firmly believes that teams can acquire solid offensive line help later in the draft, while premier defensive linemen need to be targeted early. Adopting this approach, KC leaves Joeckel and Fisher on the board, and selects Shariff Floyd, an explosive, versatile 3-technique or 5-technique stalwart, to pair up front with last year’s first rounder, Dontari Poe. Despite spending multiple early round picks on the d-line in recent drafts, the Chiefs new regime won’t be shy about solidifying an area that has long been the soft underbelly of the franchise.

2. Jacksonville - Barkevious Mingo (DE) LSU: With new head coach Gus Bradley (along with the combined new blood of Khan, Caldwell, and Lamping), the Jaguars finally have a defined direction. They consider going quarterback here at #2, but without a slam dunk signal caller in this draft, the Jags begin the Bradley regime with a dynamic edge rusher, ideally suited for Bradley’s scheme, who possesses the highest upside of any pass rusher in this class. Coming from an organization not afraid to do things differently, Bradley takes a player who some have questioned for limited on-field production in 2012. He’ll get the opportunity to utilize Mingo in multiple ways to maximize his speed and athleticism off the corner.

3. Oakland - Geno Smith (QB) West Virginia: A Raider organization floundering for years looks to have righted the ship with Reggie McKenzie at the helm. Geno Smith certainly is not this draft’s third best player, but, with the premium placed on the position, and the opportunity to draft this high, Oakland seizes the chance to grab a franchise quarterback, and the top passing prospect in the class. Despite underrated athleticism, high collegiate production, and the arm to make all NFL throws, Smith needs to become more consistent with lower body mechanics, as well as develop better pocket awareness. With Carson Palmer in place, Smith won’t have to start immediately, giving new offensive coordinator, Greg Olsen, some time to mold Smith’s game more fully, hoping for a big return down the road.

4. St. Louis (from Philadelphia) - Luke Joeckel (OT) Texas A&M: For the second consecutive year, the Rams are involved in a trade involving a top five pick, this time moving up to #4 in exchange for their two 2013 first round picks, #16 and #22. With the new staff taking over last year, and the parting of ways with Jason Smith, the team finally has the bad taste out of its mouth after taking Smith #2 overall in 2009. With Joeckel still on the board, St. Louis pulls the trigger to land a desperately needed franchise left tackle to protect Sam Bradford, who the team made a full commitment to in 2012, when they passed on the opportunity to draft Robert Griffin III. In Philadelphia, with Chip Kelly and GM Howie Roseman preaching a “win now” mantra, evidenced by the re-signing of Michael Vick, the Eagles consider taking Joeckel long and hard, but can’t pass up the chance to secure two first round picks, who can provide immediate impact at positions more direly in need of an upgrade. They roll the dice on Jason Peters’ healthy return, and look to add two starters late in round one.

5. Detroit - Bjoern Werner (DE) Florida State: Despite big needs in the secondary, and a rapidly aging Jeff Backus at left tackle, the Lions can’t pass up the opportunity to add Werner, the draft’s most polished defensive prospect, a plug and play defensive end who will step in and immediately impact a line already featuring Nick Fairley and Ndamukong Suh. In a draft deep in corners and offensive lineman, Detroit can afford to address other concerns in later rounds, while picking up a player here who not only showcases exceptional snap awareness, leverage, and closing speed off the corner, but also is a savvy, disciplined defender well schooled in defending both the run and pass.

6. Cleveland - Dion Jordan (OLB) Oregon: After addressing offensive needs early in the 2012 draft, the Browns look to add pieces to their 3-4 defensive puzzle. Although corner is an option here, with the opportunity to pair either Dee Milliner or Xavier Rhodes with standout Joe Haden, Dion Jordan gives Cleveland an athletic, moveable piece, equally at home rushing the passer or covering targets in space, even from the slot, where he shined as a Duck. He’s a natural outside linebacker, with explosiveness and elite length, who adds top level athleticism to a young, strong unit.

7. Arizona - Eric Fisher (OT) Central Michigan: After an unpredictable start to this year’s draft, this could be the first “race the pick to the podium” pick. Although the Cardinals will look to add a big-armed, downfield thrower during the first three rounds, no quarterback fitting the mold of a Bruce Arians’ signal caller is deserving of an early first round selection. Look for Arizona to target Mike Glennon in round two, or possibly a developmental player, like Southern Utah’s Brad Sorensen later. At #7, the Cardinals acquire an outstanding run blocker, with a nasty streak, who demonstrated high level pass protection skills late in the season, as well as during Senior Bowl practices, where he repeatedly stoned the nations best collegiate pass rushers. Arizona’s move allows them to slide Nate Potter to right tackle, and kick Bobby Massie inside to guard, which is a good start to an offensive line rebuilding project that is long overdue.

8. Buffalo - Kenny Vaccaro (S) Texas: With Buffalo’s franchise tag recently placed on safety Jarius Byrd, this may look like a luxury pick, considering the Bills’ needs at quarterback, offensive line, and linebacker; however, with no team playing more snaps in dime packages than Buffalo, a plethora of versatile, talented defensive backs is a requirement. In Vaccaro, the Bills get a all-around safety, who flashes speed, toughness, and instincts defending both the run and the pass, who also displayed the ability to stick with receivers in the slot at Texas. With both Vaccaro and 2012′s Stephon Gilmore, Buffalo will have hybrid defenders possessing both safety and corner skills, which, when combined with Byrd, provide them will a formidable defensive backfield.

9. New York Jets - Chance Warmack (OG) Alabama: With the Jets’ recent draft history, not even Madame Marie could predict their likely selection. So, despite glaring needs on both sides of the ball, including at the quarterback position, and the NFL’s long tradition of not selecting guards in the top ten, New York surprises everyone and actually just picks the draft’s best player. With this truly novel idea for New York, the Jets land arguably the best run blocking guard to enter the league since Larry Allen, while Rex and co. gain some ammunition with which to more fully implement the “ground and pound” game.

10. Tennessee - Xavier Rhodes (CB) Florida State: Still looking to fill the void left by 2012′s departure of cornerback Cortland Finnegan, the Titans look for a player with both cover skills and physicality versus the run. While both Rhodes and Alabama’s Dee Milliner fit the description, Rhodes is a more physical, in your face, press-man defender, and the best run supporting corner in the class. With experience in the slot, smooth re-direct ability, and plus closing speed, Rhodes gives Tennessee a Charles’ Woodson-like weapon, who can be utilized in various roles.

11. San Diego - Lane Johnson (OT) Oklahoma: The lightening bolts considered trading up to secure desperately needed help on the left edge of their offensive line, and are rewarded for their patience and prudence. Johnson is powerful with great feet and exceptional overall athleticism that gives him as much upside as any o-lineman in this draft. While cornerback is an equally glaring need for the Chargers, draft depth at that position allows San Diego to lock down their left tackle spot for the next decade. Look for them to take two corners in rounds 2-5 as possible replacements for both Quentin Jammer and Antoine Cason; potential targets include Darius Slay, Blidi Wreh-Wilson, and Leon McFadden.

12. Miami - DeAndre Hopkins (WR) Clemson: With Ryan Tannehill in the fold as a franchise quarterback, Miami looks to surround him with playmakers. Reggie Bush may be on the way out of town, but Hopkins will pick up much of the slack, and be a significant upgrade from Brian Hartline and Davone Bess, who each will fare better as secondary targets. As a polished route runner, with burst, body control, and the knack for attacking the football in-flight, Hopkins is this class’ most NFL-ready receiver, and gives the ‘phins a long-needed big play threat. Although both corner and offensive tackle also look to be needs due to expected free agent losses, the Dolphins can’t pass on the opportunity to secure an explosive playmaker, who is also well rounded and fundamentally sound.

13. Tampa Bay - Dee Milliner (CB) Alabama: Despite the solid play of last year’s first rounder Mark Barron, it’s no secret that Tampa needs secondary help. With Aquib Talib traded away in-season, and Kenny Vaccaro (an ideal first mate for Barron in the deep third) already of the board, the Bucs gladly pencil in Milliner as an immediate starter at the corner position. Although Tampa could acquire solid cornerbacks in the middle rounds, Milliner, like Xavier Rhodes, is a true difference maker, with physicality, acute awareness, and excellent mirroring skills.

14. Carolina - Cordarrelle Patterson (WR) Tennessee: Despite glaring needs at both defensive line and corner, the Panthers go off the grid here when presented with the chance to snag a potential game breaker. With an aging Steve Smith, and inconsistent production from Brandon LeFell, Carolina needs to replenish the receiving cupboard to maximize their franchise player, Cam Newton. Despite just average hands, a proclivity for body catching, and just one year of collegiate production, Patterson is electric with the ball, flashing a big body, fluid hips, exceptional acceleration, and rare dynamism in the open field. He’s far from a polished product, but his contributions in the return game, along with the explosiveness that he will immediately bring to the Panther offense, will be more than enough to justify this pick until he fully develops.

15. New Orleans - Ezekiel Ansah (OLB) BYU: To rebuild a defense that was putrid at a historical level in 2012, the Saints nab Ansah, who is versatile enough to not only provide an edge presence in their new 3-4, but also to potentially slide inside to 5-technique. “Ziggy,” an athletic freak, with sustained power and excellent closing speed, is a true “gamer” who, despite unrefined technique and limited experience, is a natural chasing the ball, with an extra gear when closing in. He’ll need to develop a full rush palette, and play with more awareness, but he’s not a truly “raw” prospect, and his versatility makes him a unique moveable chess piece for Rob Ryan’s multiple packages.

16. Philadelphia (from St. Louis) - Jonathan Cooper (OG) North Carolina: After trading down from #4, the Eagles target Cooper as an immediate impact starter at left guard, and an ideal fit for Chip Kelly’s offense, featuring inside and outside zone runs, and an uptempo approach. Cooper possesses elite level movement skills, and the ability to re-direct and finish blocks in space on par with any linemen to enter the draft in the last decade. Though not overly physical, he plays with an edge, showcasing speed, agility, balance, and vision. In adapting to new UNC coach Larry Fedora’s up-tempo offense, which features full-on spread looks, five receiver sets, and an emphasis on the passing game, Cooper worked hard to get in peak physical condition and improve his stamina for the 2012 season. It’s easy to picture him racing to the line of scrimmage to position himself to deliver another kill shot on a second level defender, as Chip Kelly tries to rip off eighty plays per game.

17. Pittsburgh - Star Lotulelei (DT) Utah: Like last year, when David Decastro slid to them at pick #24, the Steelers land a trench player expected to be chosen much earlier. Assuming his heart condition checks out, Lotulelei is a fantastic value here, providing youth and versatility to a defensive line in need of both. Though not a pure nose tackle in the Casey Hampton mold, Star plays with plus power and leverage, wile showcasing surprising lateral agility and nimbleness. He’s more likely a fit at 5-technique in Pittsburgh, while being able to slide to nose in passing situations, where he can provide a formidable subpackage rush option. With the likely departure of both Mike Wallace and Rashard Mendenhall, the Steelers could look to add a skill player at this draft position, but there will be sufficient depth at these positions in subsequent rounds, where they can procure talented receivers and running backs.

18. Dallas - D.J. Fluker (OT) Alabama: With a woeful yards per carry average, and an increasing inability to adequately protect Tony Romo in 2012, Dallas needs an infusion of young talent along its offensive line. Fluker is a mountain of a man, with a massive wingspan, who provides an immediate upgrade at right tackle. Although he possesses the lateral mirroring ability to adequately defend the corner, Fluker’s strength is his capacity to anchor at the point of attack, which, when combined with his ability to extend his arms to keep rushers at length, gives him the skillset to potentially be an elite offensive guard. Once Fluker gets his hands on an opponent, it’s the end of the story; in a more confined area, it would be extremely difficult for defensive tackles to defeat his reach and ability to hold his ground.

19. NY Giants - Tank Carradine (DE) Florida State: Yes, the cupboard is bare at linebacker, and cornerback has been an issue of concern for a few years, but the G-Men know that a top flight pass rush can make all the other parts work better. Both Prince Amukamara and Jayron Hosley are talented corners, if they can just stay healthy, and New York can add more talent here in the mid rounds. But, the opportunity to add one of this draft’s top pass rushers is something the Giants can’t pass up. Although JPP is outstanding, Osi is probably on the way out of town, and Justin Tuck’s play has been gradually eroding to the point that he may be more effective if allowed to take fewer snaps. Carradine is strong versus both the run and pass, showcasing powerful leverage, speed off the edge, and relentless energy. He can step in immediately in a rotation with Tuck, before eventually claiming the spot all for himself, giving New York highly disruptive players on both ends of the defensive line.

20. Chicago - Larry Warford (OG) Kentucky: Even Stevie Wonder has noticed that the Bears can’t protect the quarterback. And, though they’d love to add an offensive tackle here, to either replace J’Marcus Webb or allow them to slide Gabe Carimi inside to guard, the elite tackles are all off the board. Warford is a monster inside, who engulfs defensive linemen in the run game, and repels rushers like a stone wall when protecting the quarterback. He’s just average out in space, but in a phone booth, he’s a street fighter with strong hands and exceptional power, who’s ability to handle opponents one on one will allow Chicago to help other lineman with combo or chip blocks, keeping Jay Cutler upright on a more consistent basis.

21. Cincinnati - Arthur Brown (OLB) Kansas State: The Bengals are sure to address needs at running back and safety at some point in the draft, both both positions are chock full of middle round potential impact players, like D.J. Swearinger, Bacarri Rambo, Eric Reid, Andre Ellington, Jonathan Franklin, and Dennis Johnson. Linebacker talent is certainly thinner this year, and Cincinnati has their pick of the litter. Although both Alec Ogletree and Khaseem Greene would be good fits, Arthur Brown is a notch above the rest. Though less than ideal height, Brown showcases exceptional closing burst, play recognition skills, and the ability to stack and shed. Look for the Bengals to move Burfict to the middle fulltime, still giving Maualuga some early down snaps, and insert Brown as the WILL backer from day one till 2023.

22. Philadelphia - Jonathan Cyprien (S) Florida International: Taking the first step in rebuilding arguably the worst secondary in recent NFL history, the Eagles tab Cyprien, a versatile defender, equally at home in the box or in the deep third. He’s physical, with plus range and the skillset to play either free safety or strong safety, making him a day one starter, and an instant upgrade at either position. Look for the Birds to continue building the unit by targeting at least two corners from this deep class, and another safety later, possibly a small school standout, such as Rontez Miles, Malcolm Bronson, or J.J. Wilcox.

23. Minnesota - Sheldon Richardson (DT) Missouri: The Vikings need to acquire both linebacker and wide receiver help this year, but Richardson, who could be a top five pick, sliding to them is too good to pass up. Kevin Williams is in the final stage of his career, and, although Richardson represents a different style under-tackle, his addition will go a long way in restoring the reputation of Minnesota’s defensive front, which has been tarnished in recent years. Richardson is an explosive, relentless one gap penetrating nightmare, who will pair nicely with Jared Allen, giving the Vikings two elite level pass rushers along their line.

24. Indianapolis - Jesse Williams (DT) Alabama: After loading up on offensive weapons in 2012, the Colts look to bolster the defense with a classic Chuck Pagano two-gap space-eater, most ideally suited as a run-stuffing 5-technique. Williams plays with exceptional power and leverage, and possesses enough versatility to slide over to nose tackle, either on a situational basis, or if second year player Josh Chapman proves not to be a long term solution. With Andrew Luck sustaining far more hits than what is prudent last season, offensive line help is also a sincere concern for Indy, something that they may address both in rounds two and three.

25. San Francisco (from Seattle) - Datone Jones (DT) UCLA: Old college coaching buddies get together and swing a trade here, with the 49ers moving up from #31 to #25, and Seattle garnering San Fran’s late second round pick, #61 overall as compensation. With a plethora of picks in hand, the 49ers get aggressive when Jones is still on the board here, in what looks to be a mad rush on defensive tackles. Jones is sudden off the ball, with active hands, and a nice cadre of rush moves, along with an ability to play the run. As a natural fit for the Niners’ scheme, he’ll work his way into the lineup as a 5-technique playing opposite Justin Smith, and can provide depth and insurance if Smith continues to struggle with nagging injuries.

26. Green Bay - Kawann Short (DT) Purdue: With the release of Charles Woodson, and the revolving door at running back, The Pack are sure to add talent in both the offensive and defensive backfields. However, in round one, the better value is at defensive tackle, where Short is a stout, sturdy run defender, who is sneaky quick as a pass rusher. Short joins 2012 draftees Jerel Worthy and Nick Perry, forming an impressive infusion of young talent to go along with Clay Matthews along the front in Titletown.

27. Houston - Da’Rick Rogers (WR) Tennessee Tech: After struggling for years to find a suitable complement for Andre Johnson, the Texans finally break down and use a premium pick to fill the void. Of last year’s picks, Keshawn Martin proved to be valuable from the slot, and Devier Posey, who showed promise outside, is recovering from a late season achilles tear. Rogers, who is uber-talented, especially in the shallow and intermediate zones, where he is a dangerous RAC threat, is a risk, due to a history of failed drug tests at Tennessee. However, he appears to have turned the corner, and the strong Houston locker room should be a positive influence. The Texans roll the dice here, leaving talented pass catchers like Keenan Allen, Justin Hunter, and Robert Woods on the board, in an aggressive high risk, high reward move.

28. Denver - Travis Kelce (TE) Cincinnati: With a solid defense in place, the Broncos acquire another weapon for Peyton Manning in the passing game to go with Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker on the outside. Kelce is big and agile, possessing not only the best hands and body control among tight end prospects, but also the most developed blocking skills. He comes with some baggage, having been suspended at Cincinnati for the entire 2010 season, but Elway and co. will do their homework to insure that Kelce is a good fit, as opposed to a disruptive force within the locker room. Getting to play with Peyton Manning also may go a long way here.

29. New England - Jamar Taylor (CB) Boise State: With Aquib Talib not being given the franchise tag, Devin McCourty seemingly solidly entrenched as a full time safety, and Alfonzo Dennard still in legal hot water, the cornerback position is again in need of attention in New England. Never one to shy from outside the box thinking, Belichick leaves several “higher rated” corners on the board here, like Jonthan Banks, Jordan Poyer, and Desmond Trufant, to grab Taylor, a tough, smart, versatile defender, whose ability to play multiple styles, along with a strong run support presence, will mesh perfectly with New England’s myriad of zone schemes.

30. Atlanta - Jonthan Banks (CB) Mississippi State: Although tight end, running back, and defensive line will need to be addressed at some point, the Falcons have the opportunity to add a first rate corner to a unit that may lose cornerback Brent Grimes and safety William Moore. Banks, who has excellent size and length, is a ballhawk, with soft hands and natural ball skills. He’s an ideal zone corner, who complements Asante Samuel’s game, giving Atlanta two playmakers who excel at getting the ball back to the offense. Look for the Falcons to go either running back or tight end in round two, continuing the recent trend of trying to provide Matt Ryan with as many weapons as possible.

31. Seattle (from San Francisco) - Robert Woods (WR) USC: The Seahawks drop down from pick #25, acquire pick #61 overall, and still get their man here in Woods. With a strong running game, and an emerging quarterback firmly in place, Seattle looks to load up on receiving targets, with Woods being one more round in the chamber. Although he lacks elite top end speed, he’s a polished route runner, with sure hands, exceptional body control, and a few moves in the open field. As a possession receiver with some big play ability, Woods is an ideal #2 receiver, and his game is developed enough that he should be a solid contributor in the rotation in year one.

32. Baltimore - Kevin Minter (ILB) LSU: Sometimes you can be good and lucky. The Ravens play good enough to win the Superbowl, then, when they have a glaring need at inside backer, due to Ray Lewis’ retirement, the best player at that position is sitting there for them at the end of round one. Minter may not have sideline to sideline range, or first rate lateral burst, but he’s a thumper in the middle, well schooled in stack and shed technique, with enough short area quickness to make plays at an uber-productive level. He’s not Ray Lewis, but Minter is a physical, instinctive, passionate rock in the center of the defense, who will be a fixture there for the next decade.
