Mock Drafts

“Way too early” first round mock – June 7th

Written by Aaron Aloysius on June 6, 2010

Feeling a little bit empty inside now that the draft is over with? Sure…training camp hasn’t even started but what else are you gonna do? Aaron Aloysius takes you through the first of our “way too early” mock drafts. **Disclaimer** Though two of the writers of Draft Breakdown are from Baltimore, please note that this was written by Aaron, who is from the Cleveland area. We don’t want to come across as being biased

1. Buffalo Bills Jake Locker – QB – Washington

Chan Gailey had some success with Tyler Thigpen and reportedly coveted Tim Tebow. In Jake Locker, Gailey gets a more polished, NFL-ready version of those two QBs. Locker showed tremendous progress last year, closing out the season with an impressive performance against Cal. He’ll likely have to fend off rising redshirt Sophomore Andrew Luck for the top QB spot in next year’s draft, but his (read more…)

FINAL Mock Draft – April 22

Written by Will Spencer on April 22, 2010

It’s only a day before the draft and Will Spencer and Rob Engle have put their heads together to come up with their final mock draft. With a few surprises in store, take a look at how it shaped up!

1. St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford – QB – Oklahoma

Scouting Report

It seems that it’s almost a given the Rams will take Bradford with the first overall pick. We don’t necessarily agree with it, but we see the Rams issue here. They’ve passed on several franchise quarterbacks over the past several seasons and they’ve parted ways with Marc Bulger. They could go out and try to trade for Jason Campbell or maybe shoot for Colt McCoy in round 2. However, this seems like the most logical selection.

2. Detroit Lions Ndamunkong Suh – DT – Nebraska

The Lions could easily (read more…)

First Round Mock Draft – April 20th

Written by Will Spencer on April 20, 2010

Special guest writer Brandon Clark gives you his first round mock. Brandon gives you what he thinks will happen, and then gives the pick HE would make. Enjoy!

1. St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford – QB – Oklahoma

Scouting Report

When drafting first overall, it is more pertinent than ever to choose the Best Player Available. The problem is that the league has become such a QB-driven environment that positional value trumps talent in this particular instance. Suh will drop and the defensive-minded coach will fix that side on his own and let the offense benefit from talent.

My Take: Unfortunately, I can’t logically disagree.

2. Detroit Lions Ndamunkong Suh – DT – Nebraska

Scouting Report

LT to protect the QB or a DT to cause problems for the other team and keep the score low? What would you do? What will (read more…)

2 Round Mock Draft – April 13th

Written by Will Spencer on April 13, 2010

The Redskins made a huge move to get Donovan McNabb, Jimmy Clausen has his pro day and Santonio Holmes is traded to the Jets. See how Will Spencer thinks this will affect the draft in his latest mock.

1. St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford – QB – Oklahoma

Now that the option of trading for McNabb is off the table (if it was ever ON the table), the Rams have to look to the quarterback position. It’s my belief that the Rams should go with the best player in the draft here (Ndamukong Suh) and take Colt McCoy in round 2. However, this mock isn’t what I think SHOULD happen, it’s what I think is LIKELY to happen. St. Louis can’t afford to come out of this draft without a quarterback so why not get the best one? Last year, the Rams grabbed their franchise left tackle, so (read more…)

2 Round Mock Draft – March 23rd

Written by Shane Hallam on March 23, 2010

Shane Hallam takes you through another mock draft and this time, it’s a two rounder. See who Shane thinks will rise or fall based on the Combine as well as Pro Days.

1. St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford – QB – Oklahoma

The NFL is a league centered around the Quarterback position. Think about what positions usually do high in drafts. Quarterbacks, Left Tackles to protect the Quarterback, and pass rushers who can pressure the Quarterback. Even if Ram’s GM Dunleavy has one of the amazingly talented DTs rated above Sam Bradford, it may be tough for him to pass on a QB with the profile of Sam Bradford. A Heisman Trophy winner with exceptional accuracy and a cerebral football mind, Bradford has the tools to be a successful NFL starter. Though there are questions about his ability to take hits and how he’ll hold up under pressure, (read more…)

Intersite Mock Draft – March 14th

Written by Will Spencer on March 15, 2010

Your favorite draft sites from across the internet all came together to conduct an intersite mock draft. See who the experts from the draftnik community think your team will take in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft!

1. St. Louis Rams Sam Bradford – QB – Oklahoma

St. Louis is basically an expansion team at this point (6 wins in 3 years). The safe choice would be to select the widely regarded best player in the draft, Ndamukong Suh. The Nebraska defensive tackle would help the Rams run defense (opponents averaged 4.4 yards per carry and rushed for 2,201 yards last season) and provide a push up the middle. However, this year’s draft is exceptionally deep at defensive tackle. St. Louis will be able to find help at DT in the 2nd and 3rd round. No position can energize and turnaround a franchise faster than (read more…)

Mock Draft – February 12th

Written by Shane Hallam on February 12, 2010

The Senior Bowl evaluations are complete and the Combine is coming up soon. Our newest contributor, Shane Hallam, takes you through his latest first round mock as draft season is now in full swing!

1. St. Louis Rams Ndamukong Suh – DT – Nebraska

Ndamukong Suh had to build a new trophy shelf after winning the Outland Trophy, Lombardi, Bednarik, and Nagurski Award.  As he mauled interior linemen and wrestled QBs to the ground, Ndamukong Suh has vaulted his way to being a possible #1 pick in the NFL draft.  The St. Louis Rams could look one of two ways at this pick.  They can take Suh, the most dominant defensive player in this draft, or if they fall in love with a QB like Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen, that position is a possibility.  Some out there think they will avoid Suh with a lot of money tied (read more…)
