Burfict, Hosley failed drug tests at Combine

Written by Gil Alcaraz IV on April 25, 2012

Jayron Hosley

As if Arizona State linebacker Vontaze Burfict needed more negative notes to add to his résumé as a potential undrafted NFL prospect.

According to Jay Glazer, NFL teams were informed this week that both Burfict and Virginia Tech cornerback Jayron Hosley tested positive for banned substances at February’s NFL Scouting Combine.

Considering that Burfict’s first-round value has plummeted all the way down to undrafted territory, this report only continues to worsen his chances of ever making it in the NFL. With numerous concerns, including his drive to get better and inability to control his temper on the field, a positive drug test could be what seals his fate as the biggest waste of potential in this year’s draft.

As for Hosley, the drug test isn’t as much of a deal breaker. It could however, take him down from a Day 2 prospect to a Day (read more…)

Bobby Rainey – Top Of The Hill

Written by Jimmy O'Brien on April 22, 2012

“How’s the air up there?” isn’t a question typically asked of a 5’ 7” college running back.  Then again, Bobby Rainey isn’t your typical 5’ 7” college running back.  And, if you check the NCAA record book, you’ll find that this Western Kentucky Hilltopper does in fact live in rarefied air.  As one of only a handful of rushers in FBS history with back to back 1500 yard seasons, Rainey was named both first team All Sun Belt Conference and two time offensive player of the year, while leading the Hilltoppers to a 7-1 conference record in 2011, only two years after WKU made the full-time move up to the FBS level.  As a self described  “blue collar guy, who loves to work hard,” Rainey emphasizes that he’s ready to do whatever NFL coaches ask of him.  At Western Kentucky, his coaches routinely asked him to, metaphorically, push a rock (read more…)

Alfonzo Dennard arrested for assaulting police officer

Written by Gil Alcaraz IV on April 21, 2012

alfonzo-dennard

With less than a week to go before the beginning of the 2012 NFL Draft, it’s essential for players to be on their best behavior.

Unfortunately for Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard, he was unaware of that little tidbit before Saturday, when he was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

The problems started for Dennard when he got caught up in a fight outside a bar near Lincoln, Nebraska, at around 2:15 a.m. After police arrived and attempted to break up the fight, Dennard allegedly pushed and punched one of the responding officers in the face.

According to police, it took four cops to subdue and take Dennard into custody.

Dennard, 22, is expected to stay in jail over the weekend until a judge can set his bail during a Monday hearing at Lancaster County Court.

Although Dennard hasn’t had many personal issues throughout (read more…)
