Before you get all worried like I did when I first saw this story run across my computer screen, let me reassure you that he is okay.
Early this morning in Huntsville, Alabama, former Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram and his girlfriend were heading southbound on Leeman Ferry Road in a 2008 Infiniti when they collided with an 18-wheeler. Luckily, the accident was nowhere near as bad as it could have been.
Although the Infiniti’s air bags deployed and the car’s front end was thrashed, neither Ingram nor his girlfriend was injured. The truck driver also avoided injury.
According to police, alcohol or drugs were not involved in the accident. After the accident occurred, Ingram was apparently picked up by friends and driven away before his wrecked car was towed.
Ingram and former Alabama teammate Julio Jones were in town for a Thursday meet and greet with fans at Sports Vision Restaurant where they signed autographs and posed for pictures.
Ingram is the newest addition to the New Orleans Saints’ running back stable and is expected to push for a starting spot in 2011.
