The Breakdown
Ponder is a part of what could be a very substantial quarterback class. Lucky for him, he has a chance to be right at the top of that list. A tough player and a strong leader in the huddle, Ponder is exactly what you look for in a field general. He’s also not the prototypical Florida State quarterback as he knows how to stand tall in the pocket and make the throws. However, that doesn’t mean Ponder can’t run with the ball. Ponder was having a strong 2009 campaign until a shoulder injury ended his season early. He’ll be playing with a chip on his shoulder as all the experts talk about Jake Locker and Andrew Luck but Ponder has the physical skill set and mental makeup to compete with both of those guys. All signs indicate that Ponder will solidify himself as a first round draft pick by season’s end.
