The Breakdown
Evan Royster is a back that does everything, but does nothing exceptional. Has nice size at 6-1, 213 and does a good job of keeping his pad level low, maintaining balance through contact always keeping his legs pumping and leaning forward for extra yards. Showcases good football instincts in choosing his running lanes, demonstrates a willingness to let the play develop and is patient in setting up his blocks. Exhibits nice pass catching abilities and also displays skills as a blocker. Royster however lacks the athleticism of a top NFL back. His straight-line speed is questionable, and does not display an explosive first step at the line of scrimmage or explosion in his cuts. In the open-field he lacks top level shiftiness and agility to make defenders miss on a consistent basis and does not possess an exceptional burst to outrun defenders either. Expect Royster to be drafted sometime on the second day of the draft (3rd round or later) due to his overall lack of athleticism. Looks like a career NFL backup, but he does display enough consistency, toughness and reliability that he may stick in the league for several years.
