The Breakdown
Carimi displays excellent size at 6-7 327, and is dominating in the run game. Showcases a good quick first step at the line of scrimmage and exhibits some explosion when run blocking. Demonstrates the ability to anchor, using his leverage and balance to drive defenders back. Displays ability to stick to his blocks, wash defenders away and get to the second level. An intelligent player who works hard at the game, Carimi is known to spend extra time in the film room. Pass blocking; Carimi gets off balanced with poor footwork and a lack of foot speed in his kick slide, often results in him lunging at speed rushers hoping to drive them past the quarterback. Against bull rushes he does better where he is better able to use his size and strength, but at times does not get his pads low enough because he is not a natural bender, allowing defenders to get under his pads closing the pocket in on the quarterback. Carimi will be drafted in the middle to later part of the first round mainly due to left tackle being such a need position in the NFL. However, Carimi projects better as a right tackle where he can make better use of his run blocking abilities and also protect him against many of the NFL’s speed rushers. As a right tackle he could be dominate but only above average as a left tackle.
