Scouting Report written by: Andrew Parsons
Thompson looks to fit best as a 43NT. He has some untapped potential, and looks like he can be a factor in the run game right away. However, Thompson doesn’t have the necessary pass rush at this point to warrant a 1st round grade.
Thompson has a good frame and carries his weight well. He is quick to react to the snap and displays a good first step. Thompson also does a good job of firing his hands into the offensive lineman’s chest plate and creates a jolt. With this initial contract, he gains leverage and controls his blocker with great upper body strength. Thompson can anchor and he possesses a good motor.
Thompson’s game lacks a explosive element. While he gets his hands on the offensive lineman quickly, he often is unable to get off his block. Thompson also appears limited as a pass rusher as he doesn’t have many moves or the necessary change of direction skills to beat the offensive line. Usually due to tiring out, Thompson can also lose his pad level and play high.
