Due to his lack of bulk, Irvin is someone who will have to be used only in pass rush situations. However, his burst off the ball and ability to eat up grass suggests that he’s someone who can have an impact in a situational role right away.
Irvin has an extremely impressive first step and shows tremendous burst when coming off the line. He keeps his base down and shows great flexibility while turning the corner. Irvin shows great change of direction skills. He is able to put himself in advantageous situations by slow rushing the offensive lineman and then redirecting to the inside. Irvin also has fantastic range and is relentless in pursuit.
Irvin lacks great size and power. He often works to avoid contact when rushing the passer and his rush is shut down when a lineman engages with him. Irvin also lacks an arsenal of great pass rushing moves and struggles to counter the offensive lineman. He rarely is able to play on running downs, and when he does, he lacks anchor ability and will be pushed off the ball.
