Strengths
Solid blocking tight end. Gets a nice seal on outside runs. Good as a pass blocker in multiple tight end sets. Good leverage when blocking. Hands are reliable but nothing to right home about. Adequate route runner. Smart and hard working. Does a nice job blocking down field as well as at the line. Not afraid to take on bull rushers.
Weaknesses
Skills as a pass catcher are limited. Doesn’t get separation while running routes. Can fall off blocks in longer developing plays. Not a fast tight end and won’t stretch the field by any means. Not a threat to do much after the catch.
Analysis
Peek is a better blocker than pass catcher, but wasn’t able to display his receiving skills as much in Alabama’s scheme. Ironically, he transferred from Georgia Tech once they went to a multiple receiver set and planned on not utilizing a tight end. Peek will get drafted from his blocking abilities but needs to show that he can catch the ball consistently. Should fit in nicely with a run-first team, or as a blocking tight end to compliment an already established receiving tight end.
Experience
Started at Georgia tech but then transferred when they adopted the triple-option offense. Has only one full year as a starter at Alabama and started 11 games as a red-shirt sophomore at Georgia Tech. Red-shirted his true sophomore season at Georgia Tech and had to sit out the 2008 regular season due to the NCAA transfer rule.
