Scouting Report: Syd’Quan Thompson

Defensive Back Specific Categories
Started all four years at Cornerback and never missed a game. A very talented cover corner with elite coverage skills. Has the speed, quickness, and burst you look for. Can turn and run with anyone. Very good instincts.
Very undersized and struggled against bigger, physical receivers. Not very physical. Kind of lazy and won’t give an effort if he doesn’t have to. Not a great tackler and he dives at ankles a lot. Not great in run support, but can do the job if no one else will. Only average ball skills.
Teams didn’t throw his way very often in his senior campaign which led to his huge drop-off in tackles and interceptions. The production decrease and his smallish size will deter some teams but he should still be a mid round pick and could excel as a cover corner in the NFL. He has a ton of potential, but if he’s lazy that could really change the way his career turns. It’s all going to depend on how he applies himself.
Three year starter at California.
