Average play speed for a defensive back. His body control is less than perfect(tightness in hips). Richards is a tough player willing to mix it up and come forward as a tackler. Average hands at best on the interception. Shows to be confident playing the deep half with an intense desire to compete. Student of the game, diagnosis the underneath routes well, in the back half will stay over the top of the receiver and get into position to compete for the throw. Can be some what robotic in playing with in the scheme. Not an explosive hitter/tackler, prefers to arm tackle. Needs to be more consistent at running through the ball carrier and not catch tackle. Richards also needs to be more of a calculated risk taker. Seems to play it safe and not trust his instincts or physical ability.
