Russell has good play strength when watching him on film. He doesn’t get pushed back at the point of attack, and can push blockers off the line of scrimmage. He stacks and sheds in the run game, and can bull rush tackles on the move. You want him to be a little bit quicker at diagnosing the play in the back field(fly sweeps, reverses), but for the most part he see’s the play and pursue’s to the ball good. He does a good job of playing with his hands(active hands). Russell has good play speed on the line and in pursuit. He shows he can shoot the gap and penetrate through the line on run plays. He also has good bend and burst coming off the edge, even enough to let him be a run and chase player on some downs at the right defensive end spot in a four three(position flex). On the Notre Dame film he showed the ability to run and cover a running back coming out of the back field on a wheel route. He shows good mental & physical toughness by playing through the whistle with a high motor. Russell displays good competitive nature and it shows on film.
