Western Michigan WR Corey Davis suffers ankle injury

Written by Bryan Perez on January 31, 2017

First-round wide receiver prospect Corey Davis suffered an ankle injury while training for the scouting combine, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, placing his status for the annual underwear Olympics very much in doubt.

Davis, who is jockeying with Clemson’s Mike Williams for the first receiver drafted this year, had 97 catches for 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2016.  At 6-foot-3 and 213 pounds, he checks all the boxes for teams in need of a physical playmaker at wide receiver.

The scouting combine is important for all prospects, but especially wide receivers like Davis, whose long speed is still a question mark in his game.  If he’s forced to sit out of the event, his only 40-time could come from his pro day sometime in March.
